Korea: where you can find talented singers on the street

When I finally achieved my dream and visited Korea in 2015, I discovered many people who had a sense of musical art and they were all performing on the streets. The neighborhood of Hongdae (홍대) was my first experience with this. At night, when the time for relaxation comes, you can see talented youth with their guitars holding popular mini-concerts for people passing by on the street, where you can find many coffee shops selling bingsu shaved ice desserts (빙수) and norae bang singing rooms (노래방).

What really caught my attention was not only the great voices, but also the old Korean songs by my favorite singers, like Kim Kwang-seok (김광석) and Lee Moon-se (이문세), as well as classic and modern Western pop songs. As time goes on, more and more people stop to listen to these young performers showing their great passion. I got many photos, but unfortunately I couldn’t shoot any video. When I came back to Egypt, I searched on YouTube and discovered this interesting channel “Daily Busking.” It shows videos of talented street performers, not only in Hongdae, but also in other popular neighborhoods.

I invite you to enjoy watching some Korean street music with me.
